Live Sound Training

We at DHE Productions are now offering live sound training- ranging from small scale events to festival spec line arrays and everything inbetween. Our workshops cover topics such as an engineer’s role in the industry, acoustic theory, processing tips and techniques and a wide range of other topics. Our 1-day courses ensure that you can fit them in around your other commitments.

Level 1

Perfect for people with an interest but no prior experience in live sound.
Designed to give you an overview of the basic components that make up a simple live sound system.
Discussion of a live sound engineer’s ideal qualities and the job roles and responsibilities that are associated with the position.

Level 2

An introduction into digital mixing consoles and the components that make up the signal chain.
Students are taught about different types of microphones, as well as the basic principles of EQ and compression and the role they have in shaping your mix.
This level is designed for people with minimal knowledge of live sound, but want to learn the basics.

Level 3

Introducing more advanced EQ and compression techniques, as well as the impact that sends, inserts and outboard effects can have on your mix.
Students are taught about more exotic microphones and the situations they would be used in.
The second half of the day features plenty of practical time setting up a front of house system and practicing the techniques they have been taught.
Level 3 is designed for people who are comfortable with the basics, but are looking to refine their skills.

Level 4

Features an explanation of different types of live sound monitoring systems and their applications.
Discussion of medium to large front of house systems and the theory behind them.
Students are given a more in-depth explanation of the theory of sound, waveforms and acoustics.
The practical session in the second half of the day covers the procedures and regulations of rigging.
Level 4 is designed for people who have experience and knowledge in live sound, but are looking for more in depth explanation to further their abilities.

Level 5

Level 5 is a full practical day.
Students rig systems of various sizes and are shown the benefits of different speaker configurations.
Applications of different speaker management systems are outlined, as well as proper use of delays and the role that a live sound engineer plays in these larger systems.
Level 5 is aimed at people who have already completed levels 1-4, or are already working in the industry.

Upon the completion of the level 3 training, students are then applicable for a fee-free day of live sound work experience*

Prices are a one time payment with no extra fees and include all materials etc. Full barista facialities in-house and hot food provided.

1-2-1 DJ tuition.
Top of the range equipment.
Beginners to intermediate tuition.
All genres covered.

Covering topics:

- Equipment Setup: How to setup your gear and get the most out of it.
- Beat Matching: Explanation of the fundementals of beat-matching. All levels.
- Digital DJing: Pros and cons of digital mixing. Using different systems and making the most of software and controllers.
- Effects and Sampling: The use of inbuilt and outboard effects. Simple and effective ways to use sampling in your own mix.
- Live Preperation: Tips on folder organisation, playlists, key assignments, setting cue points, creating playlists and crowd research to ensure you are playing live in no time.
- Advanced DJing: Tuition on advanced techniques such as scratching, using external hardware like drum machines, recording and editing your own mixes, understanding musical phrasing and using impact mixing to heighten your performances.
